 News headlines from some labor protests in August 16 to August22, 2017

 

 August 22: The retirees were summoned in front of the parliament to call for their demands.

The presence of workers and teachers working in solidarity with this call was gathered. Accumulated to about two thousand people, The slogans of retirees against poverty, gravity, thefts and embezzlement, repressions, and against discrimination and inequality. Retirees said they would gather again if they were not answered.  Among the slogans:

The retirement gathering in March 2017 was one of the most important worker events of last year.

They demanded the prohibition of flogging sentences. And called for the immediate release of Reza Shahabi and all political prisoners.

August 21, the workers of the Iranian National Steel Group gathered in front of the governorate of Khuzestan, the second month they protested against the joblessness and payment of their claims. 4,000 workers in Ahvaz’s national steel industry group have been on strike for non-payment of their 4-month pay and insurance premiums and to start production and maintain employment.

On the morning of August 22, Pasargad Starburst workers rallied in a factory in protest of non-payment of nearly 13 months of various wage and premiums.

On August 22, more than 30 employees of the Yasuj mercenary green space, representing 270 workers in this sector, gathered in front of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Governorate in protest of non-payment of 3 months’ salary.

On August 21, about 50 workers from the Shadegan municipality gathered in protest against the non-payment of six months’ salaries and the risk of expulsion from the municipality’s building.

On Aug. 21, a group of expelled workers gathered in Tang Bijar Development Project after 15 months of uncertainty for a number of consecutive times after dismissal, against the governorate of Ilam.

On August 21, a group of workers from Bandarlenghe City Municipality fled from the city’s municipality in protest of non-payment of five months’ salary. The wages of these workers are 850 thousand tomans, (Iran’s currency) which are less than the minimum wage of 930 thousand tomans several times below the poverty line.

On Aug. 19, more than 40 workers from the municipality of District 2 in Abadan gathered in protest of dismissal and non-payment of five months and insurance rights.

 

On August 18, a crowd of young people seeking work in the city of Mehr gathered for several occasions in protest to the unemployment situation and had banners seeking employment, these young people who have created a committee called the “Youth Recruitment Committee of the City of Mehr” want unemployed youth employment. Official news shows that about 29 percent of the youth, or more than 700,000 young people, are unemployed in Fars province.

On August 16, the workers of the oil and gas industry (Oico) in the South Pars phases 17 and 18 fought to stop working for Not paying salaries.
