Support jailed workers in Iran
– Heavy jail sentences for labor activists in the past three years in Iran is at a record. Many workers, teacher’s activists and protesters who are defending workers, teachers, and children’s rights are being sentenced to jail on the grounds of being “a threat to national security”, “disturbing the peace”, “assembly and collusion against the government”, “propaganda against the government” and “insulting the supreme leader”. For example currently, Behnam Ebrahim zadeh a worker activist and Esmail Abdi, Mohamed Habibi and Mahmoud Beheshti 3 teacher activists Which Respectively have sentenced to 6 years jail, ten and a half years jail and 74 lashes, 5 years and 6 year prison, Atena Daemi (the children’s right activist) was arrested which has sentenced to 7 years jail Along with many political prisoners, are in jail.
Following the recent struggles of the workers of Haft Tapeh sugar cane and Ahwaz Steel National protesting 3 months and 5 months unpaid salaries and also risk of being unemployed, a number of workers from the two factories were threatened and summoned to court-Attempt to organize workers in Iran is a crime and apart from government organisations such as Workers’ House and Islamic Councils, which are designed to counter workers, no other worker institution has the right to conduct any labour activity.
The regime in Iran continues prosecuting labour activists – It includes from arrests up to harassments of those already in jail and their families. We call on all trade unions and human rights organisations around the world to put pressure on Islamic regime to release jailed workers and all political prisoners and stop persecution of labour activists in Iran.
Join us on to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all jailed and all political prisoners in Iran.
