On 12th December 2018, the intelligence services of Tehran arrested Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, the well-known workers right activist and defender of children and human rights.
According to his father, Rahman Ebrahimzadeh, in the evening of 12 December, six intelligence services’ agents entered their house without any prior notification or court order and took him away. The agents also took Behnam’s personal belongings including his laptop.
On 20th November 2018, in an “absent court” in Kermanshah province, Behnam was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime”.
On 26th November 2018, Behnam was summoned to a court in Dalahoo city in Kermanshah province where he was “informed of charges” by reference to his reporting of dire situation of those who are affected by the earthquake in Sarpol-e Zohab city in Kermanshah province. For similar accusations Behnam was arrested on 17th Ahugust 2018, and released on bail on 11th September.
Behnam Ebrahimzadeh is workers’ right activist and a passionate defender of children’s right and humane values and ideals. For his uncompromising defence of the values and the ideals he spent 7 years in notorious prisons of Evin and Rajaei Shahr from May 2010 to 2017.
He stood strongly throughout his time in prison and despite torture and immense pressure he didn’t give up on his beliefs. After his release he continued to speak up against poverty and injustice and the inhuman conditions that are imposed on the people.
Since his release in 2017, Behnam has had a key role in organising and delivering aid to victims of earthquake in west Iran, for which he has been convicted of “propaganda against the regime”.
Campaign to Free jailed workers in Iran strongly condemns the sentence against Behnam Ebrahimzadeh and demand its waiver and his immediate and unconditional release.
We call on all unions around the world and everyone to strongly condemn Islamic Republic of Iran for the persecution of Behnam Ebrahimzadeh who has been subjected to all sorts of abuses by the regime for his uncompromising defence of the humane values that we all share.
