The lives of prisoners in flooded areas in Iran are in danger

After two weeks of devastating flood in Iran, Hamidreza Lashkari, the deputy director of water and electricity organisation in Khuzestan province, said that the danger of the flood is grave. According to Fars News official news Agency of Islamic Republic, already four cities in this province have been flooded and cities of Hamidieh, Abdolkhan, Shiban and Karun are in danger.

Sugar Cane Syndicate of Haft Tapeh has issued a statement and warned about safety of prisoners in Khuzestan. Esmaeil Bakhshi, the beloved leader of sugar cane workers of Haft Tapeh is currently in central prison of Ahvaz (Shiban Prison), also Sepideh Gholiyan, the student and journalist who was arrested during strike of sugar cane workers and has been detained again for endorsing Esmaeil’s acounts of torture in custody is also in the same prison.

The Islamic Republic is responsible for safety of all the prisoners and must release them when they cannot guaranty their safety. Esmaeil Bakhshi and Sepideh Ghloiyan and all the prisoners who are in danger of flood must be freed immediately.

Free Them Now calls on all workers’ and international organisations to put pressure on Islamic regime to free the workers.
