To President Hassan Rouhani,

On behalf of the 80,000 members of B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), I wish to express our deep concern over the repression of workers and their rights in Iran.

We fully support the calls of the Committee to Free Political Prisoners, the International Campaign against Execution, and Free Them Now. Specifically that summoning, prosecutions, and trials for security charges must halt. Our union strongly condemns the outrageous sentences against Esmail Bakhshi and the supporters

of Haft Tapeh workers. The sentences for Esmail Bakhshi the workers’ representative, Sepideh Gholian, Sanazollah Yari, Amir Gholi, Amir Hossein Mohammadi Fard and other political prisoners in Iran should be cancelled immediately. Security sentences against them and against labour activists, jailed teachers, women’s rights activists, and political activists must be cancelled. Political prisoners must be released immediately and unconditionally.

We continue to oppose the unjust and staged trials and believe the verdicts and bail orders issued must be revoked immediately.

Flogging must be banned. We maintain that Iran’s judiciary and its penal code is a system that protects the interests of the capitalists against the workers.

Assembly, organisation, strike, freedom of expression and belief, celebrating International Workers’ Day, and the equality of men and women are the fundamental rights of all people and should be protected.

Until these rights are recognized and enacted, Iran must be expelled from International Labour Organisation (ILO) and all other international commissions.

We add our voice in solidarity with workers worldwide to condemn the arrest of workers’ and demand their immediate and unconditional release

Sincerely

Stephanie
