Re: 2019 Mahshahr Massacre Remembrance Rally November 14, 2020

Dear organizers,

On behalf of more than 80,000 members of the BCGEU, I am writing to express our solidarity with the workers’ struggle in Iran.

Through our partnership with the “Free Them Now” network, we have learned of Iran’s workers uniting to gain a living wage and pension security. We are inspired and motivated by their efforts to bring about a better world for themselves and all Iranians.

The suppression of workers and citizens in Iran must come to an end. We strongly condemn the murder of Neda Agha Soltan, Pouya Baktiari, and Navid Askari and the brutality that led to so many lives lost in the Mahshahr massacre, which took place in November of 2019.

Our union supports the continued resistance to all forms of violence inflicted on workers and citizens who stand up for justice. We support the planned event on November 14th to commemorate those tragically killed during the Mahshahr massacre. We continue to express our solidarity and support with the workers’ movement, women’s movement, and student movement in Iran as they strive for freedom.

In solidarity,

Stephanie Smith

BCGEU President
