Happy May Day!
May Day is the day of global unity and solidarity of all workers around the world. We celebrate this day as a united international force and emphasize our fundamental and vital goal: liberation from capitalist exploitation and oppressions!
This May Day clearly will be held in a very challenging and difficult time: The Covid 19 crisis continues to take its toll and has had a devastating direct impact on the lives and living conditions of working class around the world, especially in Iran. May Day this year is more than ever the day of our indictment against the destructive effects and consequences of capitalism for the workers and the whole human society.
On May Day, we are the voice of all our working comrades who are imprisoned around the world by the despotic rulers, specifically those in the prisons of the Islamic regime in Iran. Union activists, teachers, children’s rights activists and labour rights activists are currently in prisons. We, along with all the workers, strongly protest against these attacks on the workers by the Islamic regime.
We are against the very notion and existence of political prisons. No one should be arrested or imprisoned anywhere for their beliefs, organization and struggle for their rights. In particular, our effort and commitment is that no worker held in the prisons because of defending his life and his rights. Ismail Abdi a well-known teacher, Shapour Ehsani Rad a well-known worker leader, Sepideh Qolyan, and Atena Daemi the workers and children rights’ activists and all political prisoners must be released. We will not give up for a moment struggling to free them all, and fighting against this barbaric Islamic capitalist regime.
Dear comrades and friends!
Last year was a year of protests, strikes and workers’ rallies in all parts of Iran. An example of this was the strike of thousands of oil and petrochemical workers who hold a key position in the Iranian economy. Another well-known example is the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane workers ‘strike, which is been going on since year before and represent the workers’ protest voice against the aggression and oppressions of their employers, and the Islamic rulers. And there are many other important and well-known strikes and struggles that it takes long time even to just mention them. The demands and slogans and statements of the workers are also very advanced and progressive, and open a promising prospect to whole society.
May Day is the time to reaffirm the global boycott of the Islamic regime and in particular expulsion of this anti human government from ILO. There are a significant number of the international trade unions that have supported our demand. The Islamic regime with its 41 years of human rights, workers rights and women’s rights violation should not have any place at ILO and does absolutely not represent people of Iran but is their murderer.
May Day is the time when the working class rises up to represent the broad ranks of the oppressed people of the world.
On behalf of Free Them Now! the Campaign to free all jailed workers, once again we congratulate you and wish a successful year for all workers, and human rights, organisations
