Boycott the Islamic regime of Iran
At the international level, Free Them Now since long time ago has defended the boycott of the Islamic regime for its numerous crimes against workers and the people of Iran. With the appointment of Ibrahim Raisi as president, the correctness and legitimacy of this demand and our campaign becomes clearer and to support it becomes more urgent.
Raisi is someone whom the Iranian people have rightly called “the killer Ayatollah”. He was one of three members of the Death Committee who was directly involved in the killing of thousands of political prisoners in the summer of 1988, many of whom had even served their sentences under the Islamic Republic’s own laws and were awaiting release.. Raisi is the man Amnesty International said about him in a statement that he should have been prosecuted for crimes against humanity instead of being a president. In the statement, the Amnesty called the lack of legal action against Raisi as “a tragic manifestation of the international community’s failure to address the crisis of structural immunity in Iran.”
Under his chairmanship of the Judiciary since March 2017, thousands of workers and protesting people, as well as religious and ethnic minorities, have been persecuted, arrested and imprisoned, the medieval sentences of flogging have been issued against the workers and protesters, and executions have reached a very high level. An example of this is the execution of Navid Afkari, a young popular wrestling champion last year, for participating in the popular protests in 1997, his other two brothers, Vahid and Habib Afkari, are still in detention and their lives are in danger. Also, during the presidency of Raisi, government officials and security forces were given absolute immunity and free hand to shoot ptotesters, and they shot dead 1,500 protesters during the November 2009 mass protests against price rises. Thousands of protesters were arrested and many are still in jails and some have been given heavy prison sentences.
The expectation of the workers and the people of Iran from the world is that they do not recognize Raisi the executioner, and support workers and people of Iran by boycotting this regime and it’s Killer Ayatollah. Free Them Now (FTN) calls on all trade unions and humanitarian organizations around the world to express their support for this legitimate demand of the Iranian people. The Islamic Republic must be expelled from all international bodies, including the International Labour Organization.
Fortunately, so far a number of trade unions and well-known workers’ figures and activists have expressed their support for a global boycott of the Islamic regime. Today, we expect that they will unanimously demand that the chief executioner not be recognized as the president of Iran and that he must be tried in an international tribunal.
