This Tuesday, the 20th of October, the strike of Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers entered its 15th day. The workers entered the strike unanimously, to pursue their demands. The workers have stated that they will continue their strike with determination to achieve their demands. Determining the ownership of the company after the expropriation of the private sector is an important demand of the workers. In addition, these workers want to return to work their fired colleagues.
The workers have stated that even if all wages are paid, the strike will continue until the ownership of the company is clarified. The reason is that without clarifying this issue, their problems will remain and they will have to struggle for their basic rights and demands again and will not allow this story to be repeated. In addition, Haft Tappeh Sugarcane workers are demanding immediate payment of three months ‘salary arrears, the return of fired workers, the extension of seasonal and pest workers’ contracts, planting and repair operations, and the termination of their lawyer Farzaneh Zilabi’s security case. This is how a hard the fight is going on in Haft Tappeh, and today, more than ever, the issue is about the survival of Haft Tappeh company and the jobs and lives and livelihoods of 5,000 workers, working in this workers’ complex, which amounts to a population of 20,000 when taking to account the family members.
The Haft Tappeh Sugarcane workers have announced that they have their own organization of 5,000 workers and that their general assembly is their real organization. These workers have stood up to all sorts of divisive actions by the government by closing the door of the Islamic Council and emphasizing united collective decision-making. This week, on October 9th the sugarcane workers marched to Ahvaz city Shoush city, protesting against the empty promises of Ebrahin Raisi the Islamic president, chanting “Revolutionary government, only empty slogan”. They marched in the city street after demonstrating in front of the governor’s office. .
