Gathering of retirees in Shush and Ahvaz and gathering of Haft Tappeh sugar cane workers against too low minimum wage

Today, March 28, social security retirees of Shush and Ahvaz city gathered in protest against the poor living conditions and the lack of handling of their claims against social security. The pensioners chanted: “Only by gathering on the street floor, we will get our rights”, “Retirees’ refrigerators are emptier than before”, “High prices, inflation, the bane of people’s lives”, “We will not sit down until we get our rights”, “Stop empty promises, our table is empty”.

Retirees have long been struggling for their demands, such as the full implementation of assimilation and the increase of salaries above the 30 million Toman of poverty line, free health care and free education, and the right to housing, and paying the government’s debt to the pension fund and ending embezzlement, and an end to the securitization of struggles. These demands are actually part of the demands of the whole society.

Today, the 26th of March, a number of Haft Tappe Sugar cane workers also gathered in the company’s premises at the “Trench” to protest against the Supreme Labor Council’s decision to set a low minimum wage of five million three hundred and seven thousand Tomans and to follow up on their other demands. In this rally, Yusuf  Bahmani one of the workers had a speechand  discussed the workers’ demands and their other demands, including the demand to equalize the salaries with other companies.

Free Them Now calls on strikes and struggles against the too low wages and poverty that is imposed on the workers and most of the people. There should be a united and national protest against the low wages that condemn the workers to a hard life and several times below the poverty line. With rallies, strikes, and protests and statements, a broad movement to defend life should be launched and the Islamic regime should be put under all-round pressure.
