We condemn the arrest of Mohammad Habibi, the spokesperson of the Teachers’ Union
Today 5th of April, Mohammad Habibi, the spokesperson of the Iranian Teachers’ Union (Tehran), was arrested at his teaching place in Shahryar area in Tehran, by four government security forces on charges of propaganda against the system and gathering and conspiracy against the country’s security. He was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
Mohammad Habibi was arrested today, while just less than two months had passed since his release from prison. The Islamic regime, which is afraid of the resumption of teachers’ protests at the beginning of this year and their ultimatum to pursue their demands, is trying to control the situation with these arrests. Teachers have created a strong barrier against the Islamic regime’s criminal chemical attacks on students in schools, by declaring that our students are our red line. Schools restarted on April 3rd after the Iranian New Year holidays, and on the same day, children were poisoned by chemical attacks in several cities. Everything indicates that the government is directly responsible for these attacks.
The teachers and all the people want the introduction and trial of the perpetrators of these criminal attacks and the release of all the imprisoned teachers and students.
Free Them Now strongly condemns the chemical attacks and poisoning of children, and calls for the release of all imprisoned pupils and teachers. We condemn the arrest of Mohammad Habibi and demand his immediate release and all jailed teachers and political prisoners. The Islamic regime, with chemical attacks on children and the arrest of the protesting and popular teacher Habibi, will undoubtedly reap a storm and fuel more widespread anger and protests.
