Protests by retirees, regional power operators, and some other labor protests
Today, 9th April various sections of retirees gathered and protested in different cities such as Shush, Ahvaz, Qazvin, Shushtar, Kermanshah, and Tehran, in protest against high prices, inflation, poor living conditions, and inhumane wage laws. In Ahvaz, protesting retirees had attracted people’s attention and support by chanting protest slogans and marching in the city. In Sush, a number of Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers also gathered together with retirees in protest against the decision of the Supreme Labor Council, and the crowd reached more than 300 people. According to reports, in Tehran and Karaj, repression forces prevented the gathering of social security pensioners.
On this day, telecommunications retirees in Tehran, Yazd, Kermanshah, Qom, Isfahan, Sanandaj, Tabriz, Arak, Marivan, Ahvaz, Hamadan, Khorramabad, Mashhad and Baneh once again gathered and pursued their demands. Objecting to discrimination and non-payment of claims is a protest issue of telecommunications retirees. Also today, steel retirees gathered in Isfahan on Neshat St. and also in Tehran.
Today, Alborz central coal retirees also gathered in Ghaem Shahr city.
Implementing equalization and increasing payment level above the cost basket rate, which is thirty million today toman a month (ca 800 $) today, free health care and education, ending embezzlement and theft, and ending the securitising of struggles are some of the demands that retirees repeatedly emphasized in their gatherings.
In addition to retirees, regional electricity operators gathered today in Ahvaz city in front of the Khuzestan province Governorate to protest the low level of salaries, heavy work pressure and forced overtime.
Also, on the 9th of April, the workers of Para Plastic Company, located in Jolfa city, gathered in front of the company’s building to protest against the non-payment of their arrears of wages and overtime rights.
Nationwide strikes are an important step in strengthening the workers’ and teachers’ position against the employers and the government.
