Following the extensive campaign in Iran and at the international level to save the life of Abbas Deris, one of the protesters arrested in the popular uprising in 2019, Fereshteh Tabanian, the lawyer of Abbas Deris, announced today the suspension of the sentence of his client. She writes: “The retrial of my client Abbas Deris was registered in the ninth branch of the Supreme Court. The order to stop the sentence was sent to the first branch of Mahshahr’s sentences execution”. The retrial of Abbas Deris was presented with the help of two other lawyers, Behzadi and Nili, for whom Fereshte Taban is also grateful in this news.
Abbas Deris who is a worker, has been in prison for four years now, for the crime of participating in the protests and the murder of one of the agents of the Islamic regime, and his death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court of the Government. He denies any involvement in the murder. Abbas’s wife unfortunately suffered a stroke and died upon hearing the death sentence of Abbas, and now their three minor children are taken care of by Abbas’s mother, who is elderly and has no eyesight. Abbas Deris should be released unconditionally.
