Workers of Chadormaloo Mines continue their strike

by admin_shahla

Today, July 26th, marks the fourth day of the strike by the miners of Chadormalo in Yazd. More than 1,200 workers from this mine have stopped working, resulting in the complete shutdown of all mining operations. Under the pressure of the workers’ protests, the officials of the Tous Complex and Asphalt Company, who own the mine complex, have requested to hold a meeting with workers’ representatives. However, the workers, who have no hope in such meetings, have declared that they will continue their strike until their demands are met.

The strike by these workers began on July 23 as a protest against poor living conditions and the failure to address their demands. Some of the demands put forth by the workers include increased wages, the full payment of workers’ shares from company dividends, salary equaliasation, and comprehensive insurance coverage.

The Chadormaloo is situated in the central desert region of Iran, 180 kilometres northeast of Yazd city and 300 kilometres south of Tabas city. The workers work in harsh weather conditions.
