Reza Shahabi, Hasan Saeedi and Keyvan Mohtadi were in prison since 2022
On September 1, labor activists Reza Shahabi and Hasan Saeedi, members of the the syndicate of workers of Tehran and suburbs bus company, and Keyvan Mehtadi, a writer and translator, were released from Ward 4 of Evin Prison after one year and four months of imprisonment. We congratulate them, their families and everyone the release of these dear activists.
These three activists arrested in May 2022, along with Jacques Paris and Cecil Kohler, two teachers who are members of the International Union of French Teachers who had traveled to Iran for labour activities, and during a trumped up filings they were accused of espionage and were arrested along with several other activists. A big and extensive campaign was formed in Iran and at the international level, and in the course of it, the absurdity of the accusations against the detainees became more and more obvious. Cecil Kohler and Jacques Paris are still in prison and should immediately and without condition be released.
Free Them Now (FTN) the campaign to free jailed workers in Iran, while celebrating the release of these dear activists, expresses its gratitude to all Iranian and international organizations and institutions that worked for their release. The arrest and suppression of political and labour activities by the Islamic regime of Iran must be condemned by all labor organizations and human rights defenders.
