Along with the brutal massacre of tens of thousands of protesters in Dey by the criminals of the Islamic Republic, tens of thousands have also been arrested and imprisoned, and their lives are now in danger in the regime’s torture centers. Reports indicate that more than 50,000 protesters were arrested during the suppression of the Dey protests. Those detained include, in addition to street protesters, a number of teachers, doctors and medical staff, labor activists, students, lawyers, artists, athletes, religious minorities and Baha’is, and other protesting members of society who were arrested in their homes or workplaces. Among those detained are a number of schoolchildren and teenagers. So far, the names of 43 imprisoned minors have been published. The Coordinating Council of Teachers’ Trade Associations has also released the names and photos of fifteen detained students and 150 children killed in the government’s Dey massacre. The council has also published the names of a number of detained teachers, including:

  1. Mohsen Khodaei, a physical education teacher at Rajaei School from Javersian (near Arak), was arrested by security forces on Thursday, January 8, 2026, and remains in prison.
  2. Reza Taheri, a biology teacher in Karaj District 2 and a PhD student in molecular biology, was arrested by security forces on December 21, 2025, and remains imprisoned.
  3. Behzad Ghavami was arrested on January 10 in Sanandaj by agents of the Kurdistan Province Intelligence Office, and his place of detention is unknown.
  4. Ahmad Alizadeh, a teacher and political activist from Abdanan, Ilam, previously sentenced to prison and exile during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, was arrested on the evening of January 28 on the Abdanan road.
  5. Farhad Rahmani, a teacher in Takestan, Qazvin Province, was arrested on January 3. After 26 days without the right to contact a lawyer or receive visits, he was finally able to call his family on January 29.
  6. On the morning of January 27, Mohammad Hassan Davoudi, a retired teacher and political activist, was arrested during a raid on his home in Miandoab and transferred to prison to serve his sentence. He had previously been sentenced by Branch 2 Criminal Court and the Revolutionary Court of Miandoab, West Azerbaijan Province, to a total of three years and four months in prison on charges including propaganda against the regime.
  7. Abdollah Rezaei, a retired teacher and board member of the Harsin Teachers’ Association in Kermanshah, was arrested on January 8. Although the prosecutor’s office approved his release on bail on January 24 and January 27 and his family attempted to post bail, the order was ultimately canceled by the IRGC intelligence judicial officer in Kermanshah, and his temporary detention was extended.
  8. On January 9, security agents raided the home of Reza Moslemi, a teachers’ union activist in Hamedan, confiscated all family members’ mobile phones, and arrested him. He was taken to the Intelligence Office detention center, interrogated for 12 days under unknown conditions, then transferred to Alvand Prison in Hamedan with a one-month detention order. He is currently imprisoned on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security.” His wife, daughter, and sister have also been repeatedly interrogated and pressured.
  9. On January 26, security forces raided the home of Kokab Badaghi Pegah, a protesting teacher in Izeh, searched the house, seized her phone, served her with a summons, and took her to the Intelligence Office.
  10. On January 9, Masoud Kiani, a teacher and social media activist from Shabad (Eslamabad-e Gharb), was arrested during protests and transferred to an unknown location; no news is available about him.
  11. On January 9, Hossein Ramazanpour, a teachers’ union activist from North Khorasan Province, was arrested in Bojnord during street protests and is reportedly being held in solitary confinement by the Intelligence Office.
  12. On December 30, Arman Shapouri, a 24-year-old teacher from Izeh, was arrested and remains in prison.
  13. On January 1, Shervin Hamideh, a teacher in Karaj (Gohardasht), was arrested and remains imprisoned.
  14. On January 4, Jalil Shirdel, a retired teacher in Babol, was arrested and remains imprisoned.
  15. On January 5, Keyomars Vaezi, a retired teacher from Songhor, was arrested and transferred to Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah on January 7.
  16. On January 7, Hamid Rahmati, a retired teacher and board member of the Teachers’ Trade Association in Shahreza, was arrested and transferred to Shahreza Prison the same day.
  17. On January 17, Abdolreza Ghandehari, a retired teacher and social activist, was arrested during a security raid in the village of Khanlaq near Neyshabur. He had previously published a video supporting the protests and describing street repression.
  18. On January 25, Mehdi Nazari, a physics teacher in Nurabad-e Delfan (Lorestan Province), was arrested by security forces.
  19. On January 27, Ali Imani-Motlagh was arrested in Lorestan.
  20. Zhaleh Ruhzad, a protesting teacher, was sentenced by the Islamic Republic’s judiciary to eight months in prison and additional penalties.
  21. In early Bahman, security forces raided her home, confiscated her phone and communication devices, and summoned her to a security institution.

In addition to these recent arrests, a number of teachers were already in detention, including Masoud Farhikhteh, Aman Jalali-Nejad, Abolfazl Khouran, Javad Lal-Mohammadi, Hashem Khastar, Iraj Tubaeiha, Mohammad Hossein Sepehri, Alireza Mardasi, Zaker Amini, Ruhollah Mohseni, Mohammad Karim Fazeli, Hezhbari, Niroomand, Mehdi Farahi Shandiz and Hamid Rahmati.

An important campaign by teachers is underway for the freedom of detained colleagues, imprisoned children and teenagers, and all those arrested in Dey 1404. The Coordinating Council of Teachers’ Trade Associations and other teachers’ organizations across various cities have issued statements condemning the government’s killings and ongoing repression. These crimes have been strongly condemned by labor unions and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Among them, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), representing 1.8 million members, wrote on February 3, 2026, to the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, protesting intensified repression, state violence, and systematic human rights violations, including the arrest and imprisonment of teachers and union activists, and called for accountability.

A major social campaign is now underway demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested in Dey and to save their lives. The Campaign for the Freedom of Imprisoned Workers seeks to amplify the voice of this campaign and the justice-seeking people of Iran worldwide.

All Dey 1404 detainees and all political prisoners must be released immediately and unconditionally.
