Tomorrow rally in front of the governor’s office
October 2, :The new round of the Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers’ strike entered its fifth day today, October 02, to pursue their demands. During this day’s strike, the mass presence of hundreds of workers was quite outstanding, and workers from different parts of the company were widely present and held a large gathering at the “stronghold” that is the famous striking workers’ platform. At this day’s rally, as in previous days, a number of workers in their speeches emphasized their immediate demands and their unity and solidarity, to advance them. At this rally, the workers decided to hold another rally inside the city of Shush, tomorrow, October 3th, and gather in front of the governor’s office.
Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers have announced that they will continue their strike, rallies, and protests until their demands are met, protesting against the clinging of authorities to excuses and do nothing, the destruction of crops and machines, and the postponement of the payment of salaries and non-response to their demands.
With the dismissal of Asad Beigi, the previous private owner of the company, Haft Tappeh’s status has not yet been officially determined in terms of management and ownership, and this is an excuse for non-payment of wages and disregard for the fate of the company. The workers have not been paid for three months.
Apart from clarifying the status of ownership and management of the factory, the striking workers demand complete payment of wage arrears. Return to work of all their dismissed colleagues, and closing and cancellation of all the security cases against Ms. Farzaneh Zeylabi, the lawyer of these workers. These are the declared demands of the striking workers. The Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers have announced that they will continue their strike until their demands are met.
By expelling corrupt managers from the company, shutting down the government made, Islamic Council by erecting a mud wall in front of its door, announcing the Assembly of Elected Representatives of the General Assembly as their only representatives, these workers have practically created their own council and provided to all the workers a model for council management of their workplace. Long live the Haft Tappeh sugarcane workers!
