Abdi was arrested on October 22, 2016 anی was sentenced to six years in prison at Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal of Tehran Province. Then, in April 2020, on the verge of completing his previous six-year prison sentence, and just when he had applied to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office to extend his leave leading to his release, he was arrested again and sent back to prison. His re-imprisonment was due to a case that happened in 2010.
The court of first instance sentenced Abdi to one year in prison for the charge of “propaganda against the system” and to nine years in prison for the charge of “disclosing security information”, which was finally confirmed in the appeal court. The accusations that Ismail Abdi has repeatedly called them baseless.
