Statement: Stop Executions in Iran and Support the Hunger Strikers in Ghezel Hesar Prison

We stand in solidarity with the prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison who have been on hunger strike since 13 July 2026 in protest against the executions in Iran. We call for an immediate halt to all executions and for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.

For decades, the Iranian regime has used capital punishment to silence dissent, spread fear and maintain its hold on power. Thousands have been executed, including political prisoners, protesters and others sentenced in trials that fail to meet the most basic standards of due process. Since the end of March 2026 alone, at least 50 political prisoners and individuals who participated in the protests of recent years have been executed. At the same time, many more people have been hanged on other charges or remain at imminent risk of execution.

The right to life is a fundamental human right. The death penalty is a cruel, inhuman and irreversible punishment that has no place in any just society. In Iran, it is systematically used as a tool of repression and political control.

We stand by the hunger strikers in Ghezel Hesar Prison and with prisoners protesting executions across the country. We call on the international community, the United Nations, the European Union and all democratic institutions to act urgently to stop the executions, protect the lives, health and rights of the hunger strikers, and press the Islamic regime to end its policy of executions and systematic repression.
