Some news about the situation of imprisoned teachers

– Nejat Anwar Hamidi Karun is one of the female prisoners who is in Sepidar prison in Ahvaz. She is 68 years old mother of 4 children and is from Abadan. She is in priosn since 2018, and she is sentenced to 15 years prison. Mrs Nejat Anwar Hamidi is suffering from a severe heart condition and according to expert doctors, she must undergo surgeries. But despite the repeated requests of her family, they refuse to transfer her to the hospital.

Majid Karimi and Masoud Farhikhteh, members of the board of directors of teachers’ organizations in Kurdistan and Islamshahr, were sentenced to three months in prison for participating in protests for their rights. In the court’s decision, the participation of these teachers in protest gatherings, giving speeches and supporting the imprisoned teachers have been mentioned as their crimes. Due to the fact that these two teachers have no criminal record, each of them has been sentenced to a fine of eight million tomans. instead of imprisonment. They were arrested earlier during teachers’ protests and released on bail. While reporting this news and supporting these teachers, the Coordinating Council of Cultural Union Organizations declares that the continuation of these types of sentences against teachers is only rooted in the rulers’ inability to solve the country’s problems and people’s needs.

– On 20th April, Mohammad Sadeghi, a retired teacher and teacher’s union activist, was transferred to Arak prison to serve his one-year sentence. Mohammad Sadeghi was previously sentenced to 3 years and 7 months in prison in the second branch of the Arak Revolutionary Court for the charge of gathering and collusion and to 8 months in prison for the charge of propagandizing against the regime. This sentence was reduced to 1 year of imprisonment. This imprisoned teacher was previously arrested in Arak on the 9th March 2023 and was finally released on bail.

Sooma Pourmohammadi, a Kurdish language teacher and a member of the board of directors of Nozhin cultural and social organization in Sanandaj city, was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and exiled to Kermanshah in two separate cases. Previously, Sivan Ebrahimi, a Kurdish language teacher, member of the board of directors of “Nozhin” social cultural association, was sentenced to one year in prison and 40 lashes on the charge of “disturbing public order” and is serving his time in prison. Sivan Ebrahimi stated that the reasons for issuing these orders were “participating in Nozhin Association and its activities”, “supporting the resistance of his wife, Zara Mohammadi”, an activist in the field of his mother language, Kurdish.

The latest news is about Aziz Ghasemzadeh, an imprisoned teacher and singer, who was sent on medical leave for 10 days on March 2023, Aziz Ghasemzadeh was sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime”, but despite the fact that his prison term has ended on 20th March, he has not been released. He should have been released on 20th February 2024  17th, 1402, based on the law.
