We Condemn the Trump Administration’s Attacks on Workers

by admin_shahla

Last Thursday, Donald Trump issued an executive order stripping over a million workers across the U.S. government of their right to union membership and collective bargaining. This action is nothing but an outright suppression of unions and a retaliatory measure against workers. Free Them Now, along with all global unions, expresses its full support and solidarity with all workers and unions targeted by this ruthless action.
Last Tuesday, Alfredo “Lelo” Juárez, a farmworker, was arrested and placed on a deportation list. Originally from Mexico, Juárez has lived and worked in the United States his entire life.
The grassroots organization Community to Community (C2C) has leveraged social media to raise awareness and support for Juárez, calling on everyone to stand with him. This 25-year-old is a farmworker leader at C2C and an organizer and member of Familias Unidas por la Justicia.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Juárez, a Mexican citizen, was ordered to return to his home country by an immigration judge on March 27, 2018. However, his supporters argue that he has lived and worked in the U.S. legally and has the right to stay with his family. On March 25, while driving his wife to work, ICE agents stopped his car, smashed his window, and arrested him.
Communities rallied for the release of union organizer Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez, detained by ICE, emphasizing his advocacy for farmworker rights and the circumstances of his arrest.

The rally also highlighted the detention of Lewelyn Dixon, a permanent resident and union member, due to a past conviction, reflecting broader fears over immigrant worker rights.

The Trump administration’s assault on workers and trade unions must be condemned at an international level.
