Some Strikes by the petrochemical workers in Iran

Protests are widespread in the oil fields. Oil workers are protesting against the attacks on their lives and livelihoods and are pursuing their demands. An urgent demand of oil workers nationwide is to cut off the control of contractors. Some strikes in in these couple of days:

• On November 30, Abadan Petrochemical workers gathered for the second day to pursue their demands, demanding higher salaries and the implementation of a job classification plan, job security and the return to work of their four fired colleagues.
• On November 29, the workers of Kuh-e-Mubarak Jask Petrochemical Company went on strike to protest the non-receipt of their 6-month wages and job benefits. These workers work under the supervision of Kayson Contracting Company.
• On November 29, the contract workers of the Bistoon Petrochemical Repair Unit in Kermanshah city went on strike in protest of the unfulfilment of promises and the lack of response to their demands. They gathered in the company’s premises and stressed on their demands. As The organising council of oil contract workers declared “Following the nationwide strike of the oil project workers, the contractors withdrew from their previous stances and made some promises to improve the workers’ situation and payments. Consequently many striking workers returned to work. But the good point is that wherever the promise is not fulfilled, our colleagues stop the work and go on strike again. Thus, the situation is not the same as last year, when the contractors promised and after returning to work, everything was the same as before. Raising wages according to our announced figures and paying them on time and settling workers’ demands wherever they have not been paid, 20 working days and 10 days off, acceptable improvement of camps and food are among our immediate demands. We want the contractors being driven out of the oil industry.”
