On August 27th, Milad hospital nurses in Tehran together with medical staff gathered to protest against their poor living conditions and non-payment of salary arrears and their harsh working conditions. Demonstrators protested against the attack of the government’s repressive forces by calling them despicable and disgusting. They also shouted “We are all together”, “unworthy officials! Where are you?!” They expressed their hatred for the oppressors. The protesters also called on all workers by shouting “workers! Shout!, shout for your rights!” . The nurses announced that their rally will continue tomorrow and on the coming days until they get their rights.

In this regard, on August 26, the medical staff of Isfahan and Mashhad hospitals also gathered and protested. In Isfahan, this rally was held in front of the governor’s office. The protestors chanted “We worked hard, but we were not appreciated”.

Non-implementation of the promises made to nurses during the Covic19 pandemic, dismissal of many nurses and medical staff who were recruited under various schemes during the Covid19 period and refusal to hire them despite the promises, discrimination in the payment of nursing tariffs and non-implementation of them, mandatory overtime work with low salaries, lack of enough nurses in hospitals and heavy work pressure, and the low level of salaries are among the issues of protests by nurses and medical staff.

On August 27, disabled people also gathered in Tehran in front of the presidential office, and in Khuzestan and Kermanshah provinces, in front of the welfare organization building to protest against the miserable living conditions and deprivation of their most basic medical needs. The implementation of Article 27 of the Law on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is a minimum requirement for their livelihood, is an urgent request of the disabled. Based on this article, the government is obliged to provide subsistence allowances for people with disabilities in the amount of the minimum salary and to allocate necessary funds in the government’s annual budget laws to cover this issue. But the government has refused to do this for 5 years.

Today, August 27, social security retirees also gathered in front of the social security organization in several cities with great anger and protest against the miserable living conditions and to pursue their demands. These gatherings took place in the cities of Shush, Kermanshah, Dezful, and Shushtar.

In Shush, retirees from the cities of Karkheh, Haft Tappeh and Shush gathered together and by spreading an empty table sheet and with the slogan “Our breadless table, what do you want from our lives” raised their voice of protest against poverty and insecurity.

In Ahvaz, retirees held a rally and called all sections of retirees to solidarity and unity by shouting the slogan of unity. There are several millions of retirees in Iran and their united movement can bring the government to its knees and force it to implement their wishes.

In this protest movement, pensioners chanted slogans like: “Free healthcare is our absolute right”, “Our pain is your pain, people! Join us”, “Protest gathering is our absolute right”, “They have got used to stealing and looting!”, “The result of the government’s work, looting the pockets of the people”, “Where is inflation control? You are lying to the people!”.

On this day, steel retirees also gathered in front of the pension office in Isfahan and West Alborz to protest against high prices and inflation and to pursue their unanswered demands, including free treatment, equalization of salaries and increasing their level, and payment of arrears in 2021. In Isfahan, steel pensioners chanted: “Only by coming to the street, we can get our rights”.

Pensioners are the voice of all people’s protest against poverty and insecurity. And on the eve of the anniversary of the Woman Life Freedom revolution, they play an important role in preparing ground for the next uprisings.
