The BC General Employees’ Union, which represent over 85,000 working people in the Province of
British Columbia, Canada, has been made aware of an Iranian labour activist currently seeking asylum in
Germany.
Mr. Valeh Zamani is well known for his defence of workers’ rights and advocacy on behalf of the people
of Iran. As a result of this work, Mr. Zamani has been arrested and imprisoned numerous times and
his life has been under threat from the Islamic government.
Currently, Mr. Zamani is living in a refugee camp while awaiting the results of his refugee application.
We hope that your office sees their way to accepting Mr. Valeh’s request for political asylum, allowing
him to begin a new life in Germany, free from the threats that were a daily part of his existence in Iran.
