Today, Monday, June 23, 2025, following an Israeli military attack on Evin Prison, several sections of the prison — including the main entrance, administrative offices, the prosecutor’s office, visiting area, infirmary, and the women’s ward — were damaged, and a number of torturers and prison officials were killed.
According to reports, the severity of the explosions also left several prisoners injured. In the aftermath of the attack, families concerned for the safety of their loved ones rushed to Evin Prison, only to be met with obstruction from the prison guards, who prevented them from approaching the facility.
Fearing a possible prisoner uprising, the Islamic regime hastily transferred detainees using twenty buses to other prisons, including Greater Tehran Prison. These developments have further heightened the concerns of families and the public.
Since the outbreak of the war, the Islamic regime has intensified its repression of prisoners while holding them without any protection under extremely dangerous wartime conditions. This is a blatant war crime. The lives of the prisoners are in grave danger, and we must stand with their families to demand their immediate release.
We must spread news of this situation to trade unions and humanitarian organizations around the world and call on them to pressure the Islamic Republic to release the prisoners.
The Islamic regime has suffered serious defeats in this war, and past experience shows that under such conditions, there is a real risk that the regime may seek revenge on prisoners. Let us stand in solidarity with the families, organize protests, and fight for the release of all prisoners. We must also strengthen resistance inside the prisons.
The Islamic Republic must be internationally boycotted for its ongoing crimes, and its leaders must be brought to justice.
