Retirees Continue Protesting in Several Cities

In protest against poverty and economi c insecurity, as well as the government’s warmongering policies, the further deterioration of living conditions across society, and government repression, different groups of retirees have held protest gatherings on various days throughout the week.

These protests have taken place during the week, and today, 20 August, different groups of retirees in Kermanshah have called for a joint protest gathering on 22 August.

On Tuesday, August 18, a significant number of steel and ironworks retirees in Isfahan, as in previous days, gathered and marched in protest against their livelihood conditions and to demand their rights, chanting, “We cry out, we cry out, against all this injustice.”

“Healthcare and a decent livelihood are our undeniable rights” has been one of the prominent banners displayed at these retirees’ recent protests.

The retirees’ immediate demands include:

  • The provision of free, comprehensive, and continuous healthcare services in accordance with the Steel Employment Regulations.
  • The reform and genuine implementation of pension adjustments, based on the Steel Fund’s dedicated per-capita allocation rather than the national per-capita rate.
  • Increasing pensions in line with the actual cost of living, which currently exceeds 150 million tomans (ca $1500)
  • Full and accurate implementation of Article 96 of Iran’s Social Security Law and the prompt payment of all outstanding wage and pension arrears.
