Nationwide strike of official oil workers, firemen of Tabriz and cement factory in Iran

Simultaneously with popular uprisings throughout Iran, labour strikes have also started. Yesterday it was the strike of the workers of several refineries and oil and petrochemical centres, and today there was a strike of fire-fighters and cement workers. Truck drivers too are on strike since last week.

Today December 18, fire-fighters went on strike in Tabriz. These workers protest against the poor living conditions, discriminations, high job risks and the lack of any safety in the work environment, and they want to increase their wages. One demand of the fire-fighters is to cancel temporary work contracts. On this day, Deholran cement workers also went on strike because of their poor living conditions.

More importantly the official oil and petrochemical workers on December 17 launched a one-day warning strike yesterday in several major refineries and oil centres. The oil workers stopped work and rallied in the work area protesting low wages and harsh work conditions. These workers want to increase their wages and improve their working conditions. Protests among oil workers are widespread.

The organizing council of oil contract workers has called all workers to strike and protest against the executions and arrests by the Islamic regime.

The companies where official oil workers went on strike and held protest rallies are: Pars Oil and Gas Company, official workers of Gachsaran Oil and Gas Exploitation Company, Mahshahr petrochemical and oil workers, operational workers of the southern oil-rich areas in Ahvaz, the second refinery of phases 2 and 3. , Oil and Gas Refinery and Exploitation Company West of Tang Bijar operational area, Khark Island Safety and Fire Department, Mahmood Abad Complex and Gonabad Gas Pipeline Operation Centre staff.

Successive strikes of workers are going on along with uprisings and mass demonstrations of people in the streets. A call for nationwide strikes, demonstrations and marches has been given for December 19-21 to condemn the executions and crimes of the Islamic regime, and it is estimated that people across the country will join these strikes and protests.
