On September 12, Free Them Now, the Campaign to Free Jailed Workers in Iran (FTN), held an online conference in support of the striking oil workers, and against the repressions of the Islamic Regime of Iran. The conference was held following a letter from FTN to the several international trade unions and humanitarian organizations and well-known political figures, emphasizing the need to boycott the Islamic Republic globally and specifically expel it from the International Labor Organization ILO. The conference was hosted by Bahram Soroush, coordinator of the Islamic Republic’s global boycott campaign. Shahla Daneshfar, spokeswoman of the FTN; Kazem Nikkhah, Head of International Relations of FTN; Saeed Nema, Secretary General of the Federation of Iraqi Trade Unions; Shiva Mahboubi, spokeswoman of the Shiva Mahbobi Spokeswoman for the Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI), former political prisoner, Eric Lee, co-founder of the International Workers’ Site Labourstart, Massoud Arjang and Tahmineh Sadeghi, members of Free Them Now in Canada, had speeches in the conference. John Clarke, a campaigner and university professor in Canada, was also scheduled to attend the conference, but unfortunately had problems with the Internet in the last second and was unable to attend. Three video messages were also sent to the conference by Stephanie Smith, President of the British Columbia-Canada Public Service Workers’ Union (BCGEU), Hassan Salehi Spokesperson of the International Committee Against Executions, and Joseph Daher, Professor at the University of Lausanne and one of the leaders of the Swiss Left Solidarity Party. These messages were also broadcast in the conference.
The conference was broadcast live on YouTube, social media and New Channel TV. In addition to the conference speakers, a number of other trade union officials, including Rita Mallia, State President CFMMEU Construction and General Division, NSW Divisional Branch in Australia, and Paul Keating, President of the Sydney Branch of the Australian Shipping Union, have signed Free Them Now’s petition, supporting the striking oil workers and advocating the Islamic regime’s expulsion from ILO. And the signatures is continuing.
An important emphasis of the speeches and messages was the expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the International Labour Organization and its political isolation globally. Free Them Now tries to be the voice of imprisoned workers and all political prisoners worldwide.
An important aspect of Free Them Now’s activity is to raise the voice of Iranian workers’ protests in the world and to attract broad workers’ solidarity with the prisoners in the world. In this regard, Free Them Now has launched a global campaign to expel the Islamic regime of Iran from ILO, and its international isolation, for violating the most basic rights of workers and protesters in Iran, and this regime ‘s repressions and crimes. .
