We support teachers in Iran

Teachers went on strike in 150 cities on December 12, to protest the arrests and to pursue their other demands, one of the largest teachers’ strikes ever. They insisted on their demands, and a slogan of protesters in these gatherings was that imprisoned teachers should be released immediately.

The teachers have given an ultimatum to the government that if their demands are not met, they will hold a larger nationwide rally and continue their wider mass protests. Teachers are protesting against discrimination, inequality, embezzlement and theft, and their struggles continues.

A number of teachers are currently in prison for defending these demands, including. Ismail Abdi, Rada Mardani, Shaban Moammadi, Mohammad Taghi Falahi,  Hossein Ramazanpour, Mohammad Taghi Fallahi, Alyeh Eghdamdost, Mohammad Reza Ramezanzadeh, Yaghoub Yazdani, Nahid Fathalian, Zeinab Hamrang, Masoumeh Askari, Hashem Khakstar, Mohammad Hossein Sepehri and Mohammad Darkian. Also several teachers have been arrested previously and security cases been opened against them and released temporarily. Teachers demand the release of the imprisoned teachers and all political prisoners. Their struggles continues.

We, the teachers and workers unions and humanitarian organisations signatories this statement, support the teachers in Iran and their protests and demands. Teachers should not have to live below the poverty line. We demand the immediate release of all imprisoned teachers. Security cases against teachers must be closed completely.
