Protest of the Permanent Employees of Iran’s Oil Industry

On Tuesday January 17, 2023, Iran’s Oil and Gas sector held a protest gathering following a previous call, for a coordinated rallies, to be held by staff members and workers in the following Gas and Oil installations: 

  • Oil and gas extraction, west of Iran: Cheshmeh-Khosh-Deholran, Karun, Maroon in Ahwaz, Pars, Aghjari.
  • Ilam Refinery, The Continental Plateau Company, the Fifth Refinery of South Pars, The gas Refinery of Fajr-Jam, Abadan Refinery
  • Petrochemical Plants of Mahshahr and the Siri region. 

Protesters demands are as followings:

  1. Correct implementation of the Petroleum Act, Article 10, Oil workers.
  • Improvement of the Table, “Commencement of the Recruitment process,” in the said Article to benefit all employees, in line with inflation.
  • Ten-year back pay for deferment in fulfilling Article 10, as per statutory law.
  • Amendment and improvement of the medical care for oil workers.
  • Complete payment of the retirement-end bonus, as commonly implemented by the Ministry of Oil.
  • Dignified handling of the retirees to improve their life as the elders of the oil industry.
  • Timely adjustment of employees’ certification and simplifying the adjustment process.
  • Regularizing the posts of the employees.
  • Inquiry into the broken oil pension fund and amending its statutes.

In accordance with the previously released call, the protest was to be held in the cities of Tehran, Ahvaz, Gachsaran, Aslaviyeh, Shiraz, Esfahan, Mashhad, Khangiran, Lamard, Dalan and Farashband, Ilam, Abadan, Lawan, Kharg, Arak, Bandar Abbas, as well as in the drilling rigs and oil and gas platforms.

Except in the above-mentioned oil installations, there’s no further news about possible labour protests in other oil centres. An update will be published once received.

 It is reported that several colleagues were arrested from the gathering of the second refinery, but released an hour later.

Also, in Mahshahr and Abadan, the security forces mistreated several colleagues and brought about physical confrontations.

In solidarity with the Permanent Oil Employees, the Organizing Council of Protests of Contractual Oil Workers declared full support of their protesting colleagues.
