Today, February 27, the united strike of thousands of steel workers was temporarily ended, after 8 day. In these eight days, all sections of this complex of several thousand workers, were on strike.

In a statement, the independent voice of Ahvaz National Steel Group announces the temporary termination of the powerful strike of the workers while referring to the brilliant struggles of these workers. In a part of this statement, the following is stated about the achievements of the national group workers and the unifying and empowering role of the General Assembly:

“It was by relying on these general assemblies that we were able to pull the company out of the clutches of the judiciary, which had come for embezzlement and looting under the pretext of “ending the embezzlement”. We relied on our assemblies and collective thinking and intervention and we were able to throw out Mousavi this corrupt employer. It was by relying on these gatherings and opinions that we stood with one voice against the conspiracy to form an anti-labor Islamic Council and suffocated it in the bud.

It was our general assembly and public gatherings and collective wisdom that determined the unity of our action against the unemployment and dismissal of our colleagues in different periods, and we did not stand down in their defence and did not allow anyone to be fired from their home for struggleing and demanding our rights. It was our solutions, like-mindedness and empathy that made us allies and shook the streets of the city and our cry for rights that echoed not in Ahvaz but across the country.”

At the end of this statement, referring to the united confrontation with the repressions of the government, they announced the retreat of the management and the temporary return of the dismissed workers to their work, and it states: ..the rest of our demands have not been answered, and more importantly, some of Shafaq’s colleagues are still banned from entering the company, and now the corrupt CEO of the company has threatened to fire them. Our return to the workplace does not mean accepting the existing conditions, we have proven time and time again that we will not tolerate the firing of any worker”

The united movement and the strong and decisive position of the Ahvaz National Steel Group workers is an instructive and brilliant example of workers  struggle and unity by relying on the general assembly and collective decision-making to confront the oppressive and predatory policies of employers and contractors and the entire anti-labor policies of the government.
