Hossein Mirbahari, a prominent and dedicated defender of the rights of child labourers and street children, was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, and remains in prison. He was detained during a raid by the regime’s security forces on the home of his sister, Nadia Mirbahari. During the raid, Nadia’s phone was also confiscated, and she was told that she must report to the court. .
Free Them Now strongly condemns the brutal and repressive attack by government agents to arrest Hossein Mirbahari and pursue Nadia Mirbahari. Hossein Mirbahari must be released immediately and unconditionally, and Nadia Mirbahari must be protected from any form of security pressure. These arrests and summonses must come to an immediate end.
Hossein Mirbahari, who is of advanced age, suffers from several illnesses, and his detention poses a serious risk to his life. The Islamic regime is fully responsible for his safety. Hossein Mirbahari had previously been arrested on June 20 and was released on bail after enduring 30 days in solitary confinement.
Free Them Now, the campaign to free jailed workers, calls on all labor organizations, child rights defenders, and humanitarian bodies to condemn these arrests and to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Hossein Mirbahari and all other political prisoners.
As protests over living conditions and against repression and executions spread across society, the regime—fearing a resurgence of more powerful popular uprisings—has intensified its crackdowns and made further arrests. Defending political prisoners and their families is an urgent struggle for all of us. Let us strengthen our collective fight for the freedom of imprisoned workers and all political prisoners and put an end to this repression.
