On October 9, Abadan oil refinery unofficial workers gathered and protested against the lack of job security and livelihood issues. Eliminating contracting companies and middlemen in work contracts is an important demand of these workers. According to the workers in Abadan Refinery, about four thousand workers are working as contractor workers and they are protesting the theft of an important part of their salaries by the contractor agencies and the slavish conditions of the work and temporary contracts and lack of job security.

Other urgent demands of these workers include: speeding up the allocation of oil/gas cards, allowing the use of guesthouses, dining clubs and social welfare services for all workers, and revising the job classification plan and generalizing it from the beginning of the current year and Payment of arrears.

The demands proposed by the workers of the unofficial workers are nationwide demands of the oil workers.  Eliminating contractor companies that are some sort of parasites of the work environment, increasing salaries and job security are the demands of all oil workers. However under the pressure of protests by various sectors of oil workers, the government has promised the withdrawal of contractors in oil industry since several years ago, but no serious action has been taken so far.

Currently, there are widespread protests in oil. For example the official workers of the oil platforms have announced Mondays of protest and yesterday Monday 9th of October they gathered in Abu Dhar oil platforms and Khark region. As we previously reported, the protests of these workers are against the unfair salary cap, heavy taxes, and non-implementation of the 30-year retirement limit. The joining of different sectors of the oil industry to protest Mondays is an important step in the spread of protests across the country. It is very important to prepare nationwide oil protests by creating protest organizing councils in all oil sectors.
