Today, Wednesday, February 21, the workers of Iran’s National Steel Group in Ahvaz continue their general strike. The independent voice of the National Steel Group has reported that the strike started in protest of the suspension of a number of protesting colleagues and also in protest of the incomplete implementation of the job classification plan, and the workers shouted the slogans “The worker does not accept humiliation, even if he/she dies” from the company premises. They marched to Khorramshahr-Ahvaz motor way.
The strike of the National Steel Group workers has also been reflected at the international level, including the Solidar labour union, which has 100 affiliated unions has supported them and has written in its statement of support, “Workers during three strong and coherent strike periods in November, January and February of this year, Relying on the general assembly of workers. They are one of the main and leading pilars of class struggle in Iran. The protesting workers, in a united and bold action, ordered the expulsion of of the the mafia CEO of the company, who, in addition to not fulfilling his obligations, with the cooperation of the governor and the security team has dismissed some protesting workers. They threw out the CEO by force and took control of the entrance and exit of the factory completely.
In the continuation of this report, it is stated: “The violation of the employer’s promise, that is, the management of National Bank, in fulfilling its obligations, provoked the anger of the protesting workers so much that according to a collective decision by the majority of the workers, like the strikes of 2017 and 2019, they took the protest to all the streets of Ahvaz. Wide support by the people of Ahvaz, for the street protests of the steel workers and broad sympathy in other industrial centers throughout Iran, for them, led to a retreat by the CEO in front of some of the demands of the workers, but the Iranian regime’s security filing against some of the workers was launched with the aim of preventing the spread of the steel protests to other industries. These workers are protesting the low level of wages and also the change of employment status of thousands of workers of Shafaq Rahian Contracting Company to contractual status are .In the meantime, security pressures and threats against them are a serious danger and a confirmation of the need for broad class support at the national and international level for every protesting worker in Iran”.
