Protest of Laid-off Workers from Phase 2 of Ilam Gas Refinery

A group of workers laid off from the Phase 2 project of the Ilam Gas Refinery have been protesting since yesterday, May 5, in front of the provincial Department of Labor, demanding clarification of their employment status. According to reports, around 350 workers were employed under the contracting company “Jahanpars” in this project. From the September 2025 to March 2026, more than 150 of them were dismissed in three phases. These workers had previously held protests as well, with their last gathering taking place on April 7 of this year.

Reports also indicate that following damage to gas infrastructure, about 230 million cubic meters of gas production capacity has been lost, and so far only 50 million cubic meters has been restored. According to these reports, full recovery of this capacity may take between 12 to 24 months. As a result, industries may face shutdowns or reduced operations for more than three months. This situation signals further layoffs and a worsening of employment and livelihood conditions for thousands of workers in the oil sector. The Islamic Republic is responsible for the war and all its consequences, and is accountable for the lives and livelihoods of workers and society as a whole.

Protest of Kish Wood Factory Workers

According to reports published today, May 6, workers at the Kish Wood factory staged a protest over five months of unpaid wages, as well as delays in the payment of their salary claims and several months of insurance contributions. More than 120 workers with direct contracts are employed at this company in the industrial mass production of kitchen systems, building doors, household furniture, and related products.

Shocking Statistics on Daily Worker Deaths in Workplaces

According to published reports, in the year 2025 alone, at least 1,270 workers lost their lives in unsafe working environments, and 8,264 workers suffered physical injuries. Due to the criminal profiteering of capitalists and the state that supports them, workplaces claim victims every day. Today in Iran, there is talk of “death mines.” This is while workers are deprived of any form of insurance coverage. Ensuring workplace safety and putting an end to these crimes is a nationwide demand of all workers.
